About the Team

At grit + tonic Pilates, we believe movement is medicine—and your practice should feel as good for your soul as it does for your body. Our studio is a locally-rooted space where strength meets stillness, and where every class is infused with intention, encouragement, and grit (with a splash of tonic, of course).

Our expert instructors bring their unique backgrounds, humor, and heart to every session. They're here not just to lead, but to support, inspire, and celebrate you—wherever you are on your wellness journey.

Come as you are. Leave feeling stronger + more capable.

    Arianne Bautista marsh

Arianne Bautista Marsh is the founder of grit + tonic and CarmelBarre, studios shaped by a lifelong commitment to movement, wellness and community. Born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula, her athletic background spans a variety of sports: tennis, cheerleading, gymnastics, marathon running, and competitive snowboarding—experiences that continue to inform her thoughtful, strength-focused approach to fitness. Tennis and running remain a favorite pursuit today.

After discovering Barre exercise in the San Francisco Bay Area, Arianne trained and taught under one of the discipline’s pioneers before returning home to open CarmelBarre in 2014.

Since then, she has continued to refine her craft, most recently studying Pilates reformer through Balanced Body, Tracey Mallet, among others. grit + tonic emerged as a natural evolution of her philosophy—an elevated, non-judgmental space where strength, precision, and connection coexist.

Known for her warmth, discernment and open mind, Arianne is deeply committed to creating environments where people of all ages and abilities feel supported, confident, and empowered. She lives in Carmel with her husband, two daughters, and their dogs.

  • hannah redfearn-loss

Hannah Redfearn-Loss is a certified Pilates instructor through Niche Instructor Training (NIT). Her Pilates journey began at just 12 years old as a part of her pre-professional ballet curriculum. Over the 14 years she danced and into her professional career, Pilates was a large part of maintaining her physical wellbeing as a dancer, sparking great interest in the practice for rehabilitation and restoration. Her experience as a practitioner includes multiple different methods— classical, Stott, Polestar, and contemporary pilates—all of which inform her teaching style. Thanks to her varied experience, Hannah is highly adaptable in her approach with clients.

The power of Pilates helped to keep her body and mind strong through difficult periods of chronic illness and injury, despite requiring assistance from a service animal, Pippin. Her physical limitations ended her dance career prematurely, but only fueled her passion for sustainable movement.

After retiring from full-time dancing in 2024, Hannah pursued her Pilates instructor certification and moved through an apprenticeship into a full-time instructor role with Niche Pilates Studio in Richmond, Virginia. With over 1300 hours of teaching experience under her belt, she is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology through Arizona State University to deepen her understanding of how the human body moves.

Hannah has a special love for helping clients increase their quality of life through one-on-one sessions. She’s worked with clients with a range of concerns, including but not limited to, Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD), musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain, pre and post natal, and Parkinson’s disease. She also works with dancers and other athletes to help them enhance their performance and prevent injury. She firmly believes there are almost no people Pilates can’t help to better their physical function.

Hannah was brought to the Pacific Coast in 2026, thanks to her husband’s service in the Marine Corps. She is thrilled to spend time exploring the stunning nature of Central California, and even more thrilled to be a part of the grit + tonic community!

  • eden townsend

Eden Townsend is a certified Pilates and yoga instructor known for her thoughtful, flow-driven approach to movement. With certifications in both Reformer and Mat Pilates and over four years of experience teaching yoga, she creates classes that seamlessly balance strength, control, and ease.

Eden’s teaching emphasizes breath-led movement and mindful progression, inviting clients to challenge themselves while remaining grounded and present. Her intention is for each class to feel both empowering and restorative—leaving you strong, centered, and accomplished long after you step off the reformer.

  • Jill Willett

Jill brings over 20 years of experience as a personal trainer, yoga instructor and movement coach to her Pilates practice at grit + tonic. She discovered Pilates five years ago as a client, seeking relief from birth injuries through private reformer sessions. The transformation she experienced was so profound that she decided to become an instructor herself.

For Jill, Pilates is the perfect complement to strength training—it addresses what lifting alone cannot. While weights build muscle and power, Pilates supports our structures from the inside out, creating the core stability, body awareness, and functional movement patterns that make us resilient in daily life. As a woman in her late forties who lifts weights, Jill understands firsthand the importance of balancing external strength with internal support, especially as our bodies change through different life phases.

Jill’s teaching style integrates her diverse movement background, blending precision and alignment with breathwork and mindful practice. She specializes in helping clients discover the power and potential they have in their own bodies, whether they’re recovering from injury, navigating life transitions, or simply wanting to move with more ease and confidence.

When she’s not teaching, you’ll find Jill traveling, exploring nature, and spending time with her family. She’s excited to be part of team grit + tonic.
